In 1991, GAJOOB published the 7th issue of its magazine dedicated to home recording artists. In conjunction with the issue, we put a call out to the cassette culture network to collect tracks from the tapes being reviewed in that issue. The idea was to assemble a large crossection of recordings from artists active in the scene at the time. In all, EIGHT(!) 60-minute tapes were compiled, totalling over 125 selections from artists working in all styles of creative recording.
Now DiscoverSounds is making these recordings freely available online as well as publishing a CD (containing ALL the tracks in mp3 format) to document this period in the history of cassette culture. Expected release date is December 1, 2006. Pre-order details will be available shortly.
Contained in the player below is the complete collection as the tracks are being assembled and archived here. Enjoy!

Mad Melancholy Monkey Mind
Drive
We think "Drive" exhibits a goodly amount of variety while keeping an overall consistent sound. The songs that seem to grab people immediately are our more guitar-driven ones, such as "Red Roses" and "Drive." Other people respond to our catchier, more melodic pieces, such as "Like Everyone Else" and "Little Bit of Nothing." The approach in the lyrics ranges from personal politics, as in "You're Good" and "One More Time," to the more overtly political stance of "Peaceful Mask," the CD's longest song. Overall, the musical texture is the usual one for this sort of thing: vocals, electric guitars, electric bass, and drums.-- $10.00

Babylon Mystery Orchestra
On Earth As It Is In Heaven
From one of the most well known stories in human history comes the latest offering from Babylon Mystery Orchestra. However, "On Earth As It Is In Heaven" is no ordinary tale. Culled from ancient and controversial texts, it is the story of the origin of music itself. Built on a backdrop of fallen angels and the well known flood story, this is a tale of the highest treachery and betrayal. The story of angels that knowingly violate the laws of God for one brief moment of world domination, bringing with them a forbidden knowledge and behavior. Since this is Babylon Mystery Orchestra, you know there has to be a twist to this story. The music brought into this world was, by no means, a benevolent form of entertainment. Music was used to actively teach and promote violence and debauchery. It's ultimately successful purpose: to decieve the whole of mankind and drive them away from God. By it's description, this music could easily be called rock and roll. Once again Babylon Mystery Orchestra dare to ask a most dangerous question: If rock and roll was used to decieve and destroy the entire world thousands of years ago, what is its purpose today? Long Live Rock and Roll?....It already has!! Babylon Mystery Orchestra is a unique blend of classic, gothic and doom metal with an emphasis on strong lyrical content.-- $10.00
