MJG

Although mainly known for his work with 8Ball, MJG’s 1997 album, No More Glory, was a commercial success that established MJG as a solo artist. No More Glory rose to #4 on the Billboard charts and was a certified gold release.

MJG has recently completed his first solo album in eleven years entitled, This Might Be the Day. His first single, “Shades,” is already receiving radio airplay in the South. On tracks like “Ride with Me,” MJG shows growth as an artist, songwriter, and producer (he self-produced the entire album) willing to take creative risks that will bring a needed change to the game. This Might Be the Day is scheduled for a summer 2008 release and features songs with 8Ball, Gucci Mane, and Pleasure P (from Pretty Ricky).

“I been kinda underground and getting my whole thing together to let the world know that I’m really not only an artist - I’m a writer, I sing, I produce, I do it all,” MJG says in describing his approach to This Might Be the Day.

MJG’s musical resume boasts collaborations with some of the biggest names in Southern rap: Bun B, Three 6 Mafia, Cee-Lo, Outkast, and Lil’ Jon (to name a few). MJG currently runs his own label, MJG Muzik, through which he plans on developing and releasing music by his personal roster of artists.

Hailing from the Orange Mound area of Memphis, MJG began his musical collaboration with 8Ball when the two were fellow students at Ridgeway Junior High. Their initial exposure on the mixtape circuit landed them their first record deal with Suave Records.

Highly regarded in hip-hop as forerunners of the Southern rap movement, 8Ball & MJG’s first full-length album, Comin’ Out Hard, helped popularize the “Dirty South” sound. They had two #1 albums on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart: In Our Lifetime, Vol. 1 (1999) and Living Legends (2004).

In March of 2008, MJG and MJG Muzik signed a label deal with 404 Music, Inc. to release This Might Be the Day. Headquartered in Atlanta, 404 Music, Inc. is an independent record label known for urban, rap, and R&B music.
