I'm a Dreamer

(written and Copyrighted by Tim Ratcliff and Ken Bailey)

Ever since I was quite young
everyone's been saying "child you were born on a dead run"
no matter what I've done
I'm young and I'm old, I was born before the story was told
The one who went looking for treasure and brought back the gold
The one who won't be bought and can't be sold

I'm a vampire captain who sails of the night, then I'm gone
I don't run from the face of the night, for I chase the dawn
and I don't fear much of nothing at all, so bring it all on

Ever since my days in school
I tried so hard, but I just couldn't follow their rules
just like leashes for fools
I'm warm, but it's cold, I just don't fit the mold
a single apprentice of silence who shouts out the bold
the one who won't be asked, and who can't be told

I'm the last true believer who walks the back roads without rest
I don't run from the dare of the road as it keeps going west
stare in the mirror, and stare even deeper
and when I wake up, even more, I'm a dreamer
