The son of a jazz pianist, Paul Hosford has been interested in music his entire life. His interest in music has been paralleled, however, by an equal interest in audio electronics. He made his first overdub recording at age 12, using two cassette recorders to record his first original composition, and had built a small studio by age 15. By the age of 17 he had composed and recorded a number of multi-instrumental works. Shortly after marrying in 1985, Hosford and his wife Lori moved into a larger home specifically in order to convert the upper floor into a recording studio. They sold a parcel of land to enable them to purchase a Fostex 8 track reel-to-reel machine and a number of accessories. They began recording both Hosford and his father, Frank's, compositions, but soon branched out into recording other area musicians and musical groups as well., in time recording musicians from as far away as Rapid City and even Nashville. In the first six years of operating their studio, they composed and recorded enough material for four CDs. In the mid 90's, after moving to another home, they rebuilt their studio using both digital equipment and vacuum tube equipment that Hosford had designed and perfected over a period of years. With the advent of affordable CD burning equipment, they undertook to start their own record label, Painted Heart Music, handling every aspect of CD production in their basement. They have since remastered their older recordings and released a total of 12 "home made" CDs of both their own and their friends music. (Please visit their website to learn more....) In addition to composing and recording music, Hosford tunes pianos, teaches guitar, and demonstrates musical instruments in area elementary schools. The Hosfords have chosen to remain in rural Nebraska in order to raise their three children in the nurturing environment the area provides. They are active in efforts to revitalize the economy of their area and spearheaded the creation of a unique small business resource center in their public library to help others market their "home made" creations over the Internet.
